After multiple scorched eyebrows and many fiery deaths, I finally cracked the riddle of lighting up all three runes to claim the precious Idunn Apple within.

A Brief History of Nornir Chests
Before we traverse these burning lands, let‘s discuss the history of Nornir Chests. These ornate locked chests engraved with ancient Norse runes have appeared in God of War games since the original 2005 installment. They are each marked with the letters N, C, and R, representing the three Nornir sisters from Norse mythology – Nótt, Verðandi, and Skuld.
The Norns control the threads of fate, so unlocking these chests demonstrates power over destiny itself! Inside, we‘re rewarded with Idunn Apples – magical golden apples that permanently upgrade Kratos‘s maximum health. Even just one Idunn Apple can provide the durability boost needed to survive vicious onslaughts from epic bosses.
In Ragnarök, there are 43 Nornir Chests hidden across the realms, each containing one Idunn Apple. I‘ve unlocked them all, nearly doubling my starting health bar in the process! But few were as challenging as the Burning Cliffs chest…
Braving the Blazing Burning Cliffs
Muspelheim, the fiery realm of the fire giants, has always harbored dangers untold. The Burning Cliffs area is especially hazardous – one misstep sends you plunging into the lava below.
But we must press on! I spotted a glowing Nornir Chest on the cliffside across a river of lava. How to reach it? By carefully shimmying along the rock wall to the right, I managed to drop down to a chamber with the chest. Three unlit runes blocked my prize.
Now came the real trial – lighting all three runes by manipulating the environment. I wielded the Blades of Chaos, their fiery power essential to unlocking the chest.
Igniting the First Rune
I looked up to see the N rune engraved onto the wall above the chest. Aiming the Blades, I launched a fireball to ignite the first rune. The Nornir sisters had blessed my first step!
Connecting Through Crystals to the Second
I returned to the cliff edge, spying the C rune across the lava on an adjacent wall. No line of sight for my Blades‘ fire… To bridge the gap, I charged up bursts of energy to create enlarged hexagonal crystals between the rock surfaces. With care, I formed a path from my Blades to the C rune, lighting up the second sister‘s symbol!
Uniting Two Torches for the Final Rune
Only the R rune remained. Two torches flanked the chest – I realized they must be connected! Once again, I used the Blades to craft enlarged hexagonal crystals, this time between the torches. A chain of bubbles linked the flames, conducting infernal energy into the R rune and cracking open the Nornir Chest at last!
The Fruits of Fate
The Nornir sisters rewarded my efforts with an Idunn Apple, increasing my health by 50 points. While individually small, these upgrades add up – finding all of Ragnarök‘s Idunn Apples granted me 325 extra health!
With my newfound vigor, I felt ready to brave the rest of the Burning Cliffs. No fire giant or scorching terrain could stop me now!
